Website Security Trends in 2024

Table of Contents

2024 has already started and how people will do website security has already been discussed. There are a multitude of topics which include AI, Ransomware attacks, and FEMACyber insurance that this post will go over and how they affect the current state of website security.

AI in cybersecurity

AI is set to expand into automated responses and predictive analytics, which are immensely useful to an ethical hacker. With automated responses and predictive analytics, AI can automatically detect something going wrong on the site which could be a security breach. This is big because AI has the tools to see what might be happening with a site when an admin or someone who could fix it might overlooked it is very useful to the safety of a site.

On the other hand, AI is being used to make more believable phishing scams and social engineering attacks which are made by hackers. This is very bad timing as election year comes which will bring a whole slue of disinformation campaigns to make people vote for one side over the other, along with making them give the attackers money with phishing. In an almost comedic turn of events, it has been proposed to use AI security to block AI-written scams and attacks. We will just have to wait and see how good introducing AI into the cybersecurity business.

Escalation of Ransomware attacks

Ransomware has been increasing in complexity and is getting more aggressive in 2024, which by 2025, according to Forbes, will exceed 10.5 trillion globally due to the number of damages caused by these attacks. I believe that with AI a number of these attacks will be stopped, and with how fast technology is growing I wouldn’t be surprised to see AI stop most of these attacks and bring down the amount of damage that is caused.

To go along with that, the US has finally started making a national data privacy act. This will raise the standard of data protection which will not only make businesses have to give good protection but in my eyes will let companies that didn’t know how to start with data protection get a start on how they should protect their data.

FEMACyber Insurance

As commercial insurance moves out of high-risk areas like Florida, there has been a push for government intervention. Thus, FEMA is being used as the backstop for all of the cyber insurance that isn’t covered by commercial insurance companies. With FEMA being involved, it might help alleviate some strain on high-risk areas by giving them a permanent insurance company that won’t leave.

Conclusion

Overall, with the cybersecurity attacks becoming more powerful, it does seem like 2024 will be rough for ethical hackers and businesses. I do hope that the US’s National Privacy Act will alleviate some of the damages that will be caused by all sorts of hacking attacks. My prediction is that AI will be used on either side to a point where humans are no longer even doing anything and it’s all just AI on AI.
